Megan Cox - Junior Creative Assistant

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF…

I’m Megan, a Junior Creative Assistant at Content Creatures. My role involves generating ideas, storyboarding and designing assets to use in 2D animation. I love finding the balance between clear communication with each brief and adding sparks of fun moments to stories.

WHY ANIMATION?

I‘ve always loved drawing characters and worldbuilding, but it didn’t occur to me until university that I could explore animation to bring my illustrations and imagination to life on a whole new level. Giving movement to what I create fills me with excitement and satisfaction, reconnecting me to my childhood.

WHAT DID YOU WATCH AS A KID?

I watched Cartoon Network every day–animations like Ben 10, Robotboy, Powerpuff Girls, and Fairy Odd Parents. My brother and I loved the Pokemon shows, movies and games, but my favourite series to this day is Avatar: The Last Airbender.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM PROJECT?

My dream project would be a Ghibli-esque film, filled with fantasy, nature, playful characters and an emotionally impactful storyline, where I could get immersed in conceptualising the visual details that would transport the audience to another world. One day, I would also love to adapt my projects into children’s books and toys.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Walking in my local woods and birdwatching, playing piano, reading, watching David Attenborough documentaries and asking ‘what if?’ questions.

IN AN ALTERNATE REALITY, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a dolphin trainer, but I think I would prefer to be a dolphin instead, because I would love to spend everyday swimming and exploring the ocean.

WHAT MAKES A CONTENT CREATURE?

A content creature is someone compassionate and empathetic. They are open to listening, learning, sharing, and working together. They push through difficulties, always motivated to get the best result and are proud of the things they are passionate about.

WHAT GENRE OF ANIMATION WOULD YOU STAR IN?

Any fantasy animation, and I’d probably be a quiet and slightly awkward but friendly and gentle magical character like Ghibli’s Totoro.

WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT IN 2024?

I’m looking towards content that is comforting and healing, with a focus on taking care of ourselves and supporting the people around us, so aesthetics that are warm and soft. It will also be interesting to see how designers and animators will use emerging AI technology in 2024.
